So beyond delicious that you start to wonder what you've been eating the past three decades of your life! I've been here probably around ten times and it's always incredibly delicious. My husband and I are hooked on the chili dumplings. The heat is nice and the flavor is out of this world! If I had kids, I'd sell them for these dumplings! A must try. The best general tso's chicken in State College. I know, that's the "American Chinese", but delicious is delicious. They have signs up that they will be closed in July for renovations/expansion. This is great news. I've rarely been there without the line going out the door. If you are in town for one night, eat here! Get the chili dumplings!

Great chinese food. Super friendly service, good prices, fresh food that is not too greasy... they have a nice variety of dishes but not everything and the kitchen sink like most chinese restaurants around here. There is a small amount of seating inside the restaurant but they offer delivery that is usually quite fast.

So I used to go frequently to Chopsticks Express down the street for a bowl of hot noodle soup after work before the dinner rush comes in. I check out newly opened Little Szechuan and the chef was from there! I ordered the same noodle soup as I got (Shredded pork with pickled mustard greens) and he makes it the same way! The difference though...there's options for the type of noodle you want (egg, rice, wide, or clear) I look on their shelf and saw they also had TAIWAN ramen and I asked for that. Its my favorite kind of noodle, definitely great for their dan dan noodle or noodle with minced pork appetizer. Another favorite dish I usually get at Chopsticks is the MA-LA tofu (deep fried tofu in szechuan sauce) it was not listed on the menu but when I asked if they have it, they said they can make any kind of dish out there! Other pros to this place: - the staff (aside from the chef) speaks very fluent English so if your confused about menu items they can help clarify what you want, they are also enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the food as well! - they take credit card! suggested tip amount is also listed on the bill - more seating than Chopsticks, also the kitchen is out front so you can see the chef make the food, though you would have to stand up and watch since the wall in front of the bar is a little high The only cons I have to say about this place is the higher price and smaller portions. ($7 for the tofu $8.99 for the noodle soup when it was around $6 and $7 respectively at Chopsticks though prices seem to keep rising) I typically will be super full after spending $15 at Chopsticks, but instead I spent $20 at Little Szechuan but I wasn't quite full. The quality of the dishes are great and will leave the flavorful taste in my mouth. If you enjoy spicy Chinese food and worry if they can't understand what your saying in English this place is for you!

Forget about what you know of Szechuan cuisine or what you think you know. This place runs like a clock and they are there for one reason: The cuisine. A testament to the changing culture in State College, Little Szechuan is a gem that reflects the roots of the cuisine and people, and dishes on the menu like the Cumin Lamb (quite tasty by the way) affirm this. Other restaurants in the area have had my business, but not my praise until now. There were no flaws in the food, period. Mountains of fresh vegetables and succulent morsels, a myriad of colors, flavors and aromas that delight the palate. I love that you can just order a delightful, heaping side of authentic vegetables like the Water Spinach (which was on the special menu for the evening) that brought its own balance to some of the other dishes. Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating and the menu items are properly priced. Every one of the 12 dishes ordered by the table were superb. Like most things though, you probably want to explore here and not go with the "safe" (comfort zone) dishes. However, don't be afraid to venture into the authentic dishes, these are the ones that are the hallmark of this establishment. Little Szechuan, thank you so much for bringing a true piece of your culture to State College! It's a small place, so unless you are willing to wait for a table, or are flying solo or just with a friend, I would suggest you order in or take out!

This is the best chinese restaurants in town. Besides the great food, Their service is just great and fast.

Living less than an hour from San Francisco (home to far and away the best Chinatown in America), I've had my fair share of Chinese food. Having said that, Little Szechuan is up there with the best of them. Flavorful but not overbearing, spicy, and fresh. My favorite restaurant in State College. The food is great, the staff is extremely nice. (I only wish they had more seating)

The Short and Sweet: Basically a notch above your everyday Chinese take-out. The Food: (above average) I ordered the General Tso's chicken with an eggroll and fried vegetable rice. The rice was not as greasy as your typical Chinese take-out and very yummy. The eggroll was just as greasy and crispy as the many other take-outs I have tried, but it was a guilty pleasure and yummy. The General Tso chicken was cooked nicely and the flavors were spot on. The Atmosphere: (average) The atmosphere is a your typical booths and seating with an open-kitchen, so you can see your food being prepared and engulfed with a bunch of good smells. There is bar seating if you are an individual and other group seating. Overall, just a small place with appropriate seating. Noise level is moderate. The Price: (average) Price is spot on, no outrageous deals or over-pricing. These are probably the same prices you've seen at other Chinese take-outs. The Service: (average) When I ordered my take-out, the place was packed full and had a line of 3+ at the door waiting for their food. My order took about 10 - 15 minutes to get to me, which might be a little long, but then again, I had never seen a Chinese take-out this packed. In this case, I suppose its appropriate time.

Ordered from here twice now and excellent. The pork dumplings in hot chile oil are amazing. Big meaty dumplings with fresh scallions and sesame not too spicy but some heat. Also got chicken chile hot pot this time and curry lamb last time. Both excellent and saucy. I like spicy and they both hit the spot. Fresh ingredients and garlic and herbs and not just white meat chicken pre-cut. Seems like slow cooked marinated meat.

The food here is delicious! Some visiting friends noticed that this place was packed during lunchtime, so we decided to go there for dinner. Turns out that was a really good idea. It's a small place with a few booths/tables and a counter, where you can see them cook. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. Our food came out pretty quickly as well. I ordered the Shredded Pork with Garlic, Szechuan Style, shown in the attached picture. I was really hungry, so the picture only shows about 3/5ths of the original portion, which was really generous. It was really tasty; the spice was just right and everything was seasoned perfectly. It's the kind of dish you could eat over and over again without getting tired of it. I hear this place has some great lunch specials, so needless to say I will be coming back here soon.

Best Chinese food experience ever! If you like spicy you must order a hot pot! vegetarians - the veggie hot pot is to die for! It has all kinds of mushrooms but the highlight is the tofu skin! Also, don't pass on the cucumber and garlic sauce cold app... I can't believe I have never ordered it before! Overall I don't think you can go wrong with any choice. I will go back every time I'm in town!

This is real real real authentic Chinese food, Sichuan cuisine! The best Sichuan food I have ever had in US!

The best tasting Chinese food in town. And that's saying a lot since State College is filled to the brim with Asian restaurants. I had pork fried egg rolls and shared a General Tso's chicken with my wife. We ate at the counter since the booths were filled up. Everything was excellent, with extremely fast service and great tasting food. The egg roll was probably the best I've ever had in State College, with the exception of Suzy Wong which only does catering now. Caveats: 1.) The General Tso's Chicken. It's VERY spicy. Great taste, but a lot of heat. The sauce is amazing. However, I was a little disappointed that they used dark meat chicken instead of white meat. If you order anything chicken there, ask if it's white or dark meat first. 2.) Don't bother trying to eat here when a Penn State semester is in full swing. The place will be completely packed with students. The funny part is, when we tried to drop in here for lunch on a Sunday, the customers were 100% Asian students. So this place must be good if they're all eating here! 3.) This place is tiny. Not enough seating, not enough room to even wait to be seated. You'll be blocking the doorway just waiting for a table. Not worth it. We left because of this during one visit. I can't really take away stars for that since being packed means they're extremely popular and doing a good job with their food.

My favorite restaurant in State College. Unfortunately it's closed for renovation for the month of August

I've NEVER given anyone 5 stars. This is the most delicious Chinese food my family and I have ever had. We have lived all over the US,and also have lived and traveled abroad. Yes, if you ask to have it delivered, it can be slow. But when it comes it's scrumptious!!!!

  • Hung Y.

Called for a delivery. Ordered four dishes including a fish. The food is mediocre at most and it took them 1 hour and 20 minutes to deliver to our apartment near walmart, and the food was cold. Please do not bother to call them if you're hungry..

I've had my fair share of Szechuan food from Boston to New York and I can say Little Szechuan falls short, way short. The chengdu cold noodles seriously tasted like linguine pasta. It was like eating italian food with asian flavoring. The dan dan warm noodles could use more pork toppings.. the meat to carb ratio was way off. The dishes weren't very spicy but I started feeling the effects of MSG when I left. It's upsetting how far this place is from being authentic. Not to mention, it was weird that the servers here greet the customers differently based on their ethnicity. I noticed when asian customers came in they would greet to them in mandarin. If anyone who wasn't asian they would speak english. I found this to be slightly racist because they're making prejudgements on a person based on their appearance. What if the asian looking person didn't speak mandarin? Why are they treating people differently based on how they look? Why isn't everyone spoken to in the same language? Sad to report that this place is one of those American Chinese take out spots that have sold out on true authenticity the moment it opened its doors.

I think I can safely say this is the best Chinese I've had. Now I'm not a food expert. Just someone who loves dining out. I've been to places in Chinatown in Philly. I was living between Reading and Lancaster the last 20 years. I was worried about moving to the area and not having anywhere to eat. But the food here has helped calm my fears. I suggest the prawns or the stir fried clams. The twice cooked pork is pretty amazing too. Honestly haven't had anything I didn't like yet.

This place is always busy, which is a good sign. I ordered the House Special Stir Fried Noodle (aka, House Special Low Mein). The dish came with chicken, shredded pork and shrimp, and vegetables (carrots, nappa cabbage, snow peas, white onion). The flavors were pretty decent and appreciated the tenderness of the chicken and pork, which were flavorful. The only think I didn't appreciate about this dish is that it was a bit "mushy". This would be great if I had no teeth, like a baby or if I lost all my teeth. I saw the cook make my dish and I think the part of problem is that they boil the veggies with noodles before it is stir "fried" with the meats and sauce, which is unfortunate because you miss on the savory flavors that would have developed in the pan through caramelization. But, it was good overall. I will definitely come back and try the other dishes.

I came to town for my nephews graduation and was driving around for groceries and convenient stores to buy some beer. They are worst than what WA used to be. You can only by bottled/canned beer from bars and pubs. You can't buy more than a 12 pack at a time. So, anyway I get my beer at Champs Sports Grill. I decide to order some wings from here for those in my party wanting wings. I decide to look for some Asian food on Yelp and come upon this place. I have a drink and decide to order from here based on the pictures I see of the food. I don't have a menu and decide to order exactly what other people have had here. Best decision I made. This is the best Szechuan, probably the best Chinese I've had in years. I wouldn't expect to say that since I live in the PNW. I eat at Tacoma Szechuan often and compared to Little Szechuan, TS can't compete at all. The Spicy Brisket soup, Five Spice Beef, and a pork dish that I ordered all tasted so good. Before I leave here next week I will go back. The lady that took my order was so helpful when I placed my order with no menu to help me. They even let me try some of the seaweed soup they were eating when I arrived to pick up my order. State College is so lucky to have this place. It is the best restaurant in State College.

So far I can only speak for their delivery service but that is enough for me to rate them 5 stars. Never once have they screwed up my order, they deliver very fast, and they are open to changes in their dishes. No matter where you are on campus, they are there to deliver. I even got one of the delivery men to come up to the room in the library where I was studying to deliver my food because I didn't want to get up. Real MVP.

Best Chinese restaurant in town. Even better than the fancy ones in the big cities.

  • Peng X.

Pro: - Authentic Szechuan Chinese food - Szechuan spice has good flavor. It slightly numbs your tongue to prepare you for the other spices. - Large portions - Good prices Cons: - Not enough seating. May cause long waits when the place is busy. Recommendation: Spicy braised beef noodle soup. (see picture)

They are consistently off on their delivery time. If they were more accurate, I would attempt to give them an additional star. But, routinely, they are off 15-20 min. on their delivery time. They say it will be an hour, and it comes in 45 min. They say more than an hour, and it comes in 45 min. geez. really. They are small, and slightly, louder, more authentic, spicer, and fresher than Szechuan bistro (which is thus better for Americans, non-spicy people, and groups). Both are outstanding, which is a real great deal.

  • Vic R.

This restaurant is the best Chinese food I've had outside of China. I have spent considerable time in China and the food at Little Szechuan is identical with the food that you get in China. The dumplings in hot oil is to die for. And the Szechuan beef is excellent. But really every dish I have tried is really good. The only real problem is that the wait time for a table can be lengthy. But hey, bring someone to talk to. The food is worth the wait.

Best Chinese food restaurant in state college ! The chef uses fresh material and how he makes the food is so delicious! Can't find another one like that! I bring a lot of my American friends there! Everyone loves it !

The best Chinese food I ate in State College. The place is a little bit crowded because it is a popular place that everyone wants to eat here. I highly recommend Americans to visit here for some authentic Chinese Szechuan food.

If you like spicy food and you like authentic Chinese food, then this is the place to be. Be sure to order something you've never tried, don't come here and order Chicken & broccoli if you know what I mean, because you can simply order that from other take out places. I usually get the fish and lamb dishes and trust me, you won't regret it ~

  • Tim D.

This place has some really unique Chinese food. I would have given them more starts, but the beef dish I had, although it tasted great, was way to oily. I liked it, but it left me feeling a little queasy. Also the "potatoes" in the beef and potatoes dish appeared to be crinkle cut french fries, which i found to be a bit off putting. The bandana desert was spot on though. I will definitely be going to again to try more dishes out.

Not just "another" Chinese restaurant in state college. The food is fresh, spicy, and super delicious. The space is small, i'd recommend ordering online and picking up. The hot pots are my favorite. Me and my wife can share a hot pot, with an appetizer and feel full. but not too full.

Shrimp fried rice and pork dumplings with chili oil. Oasis for the wandering L.A. native in search of some real Asian comfort food.

Decent Chinese takeout. Noodle dishes were good. Nothing tasted too salty. Sesame chicken and wonton soup were average. Pork egg roll was crispy. Floor was filthy dirty and sticky, but full view of the clean kitchen was a plus. Might try again.

We ordered Tso Tofu and Vegetables. We asked that it be made really spicy. She asked us twice if we really wanted it spicy. But it came out very mild. Another gentleman came to check on us. And told us that he had served us a 3 on a scale of 1-10 and said he could make it to 20 :-). He brought out fresh green chilies. We will definitely go here again. I was surprised at the pricing. $20 usually covers 2 lunches and tip at Cozy Thai. Here the bill came to $18:54. They were pretty prompt about serving us quickly as one person had to get to an appointment.

We were wandering around State College (College Av) and happened on this place. The menu looked interesting and the place was filled with students from Asia which seemed like a good sign to us. So we took the last table. Minutes later there was a line out the door. We ordered the lamb hot pot --one of the pricier dishes/-but it was wonderful. The lamb was tender and flavorful and the vegetables were interesting. I have eaten in a million Chinese restaurants but this place will stand out in my memory If you plan to eat at regular meal times you might do better with take out just to avoid waiting.

  • Dan D.

Little Szechuan is one of the best things to happen to State College. I can only echo the rave reviews offered by other Yelpers. The Chili Hot Pot options are especially intense and flavorful. The stock is incredibly rich and flavorful. Friends say it compares favorably with restaurants in New York and Philly. I have had the lunch specials and regular menu and all were quite good. Seating and management of the wait line is another matter entirely. Some diners avoid this problem by ordering take out only.

I'm Chinese and I don't normally order American food but I've taken a liking to their Kung Pao Chicken. It's probably the best in town. I can't wait to try their other dishes!

Pretty good Chinese food in the State College area. It is comparable to Big Bowl Noodle House taste but a little more pricey. They do, however, accept credit cards. They have a very big menu with lots of selections from chicken with mixed vegetables to Peking duck. It is a small place and the service wasn't great. The owner was friendly and I will go back when I am in the mood for Chinese.

The best Chinese food I have ever had including restaurants in San Francisco and Washington DC. Clean, fresh, with friendly staff. Portions were very large and exceptionally delicious! Highly recommend!!!

Lunch specials are quite cheap. They certainly have the freshest chinese in State College. Very nice place definitely worth going to.
